Giving permissions to Bria Stretto (Mac) When using Bria Stretto with macOS Mojave or higher, Bria Stretto needs some of these permissions in order to access certain functions. Bria Solo is a stand-alone softphone solution that needs to be paired with a call server or VoIP service to make calls, while Bria Teams comes with a CounterPath-hosted Team Voice and Team Messaging service for intra-team communication and collaboration.

Creating a Bria Portal account

Users need to create their Bria Portal account on the Bria User Dashboard before logging into Bria.

For BriaSolo, a Bria Portal account is created when you sign up for the solution.

For BriaTeams, the administrator of the team creates the team and sends you an email invitation to join the team. Use the link in this email to create your Bria Portal account.

To create your Bria Portal account
  1. Click the link in your team invitation.

    The Bria User Dashboard opens.

  2. The email that your invitation was sent to appears in the email line. If this is the email address you want to use, click Next. If you want to use a different email, type it here and click click Next.
  3. Type a password you want to use for your Bria Portal account and click Next.
  4. Review the service terms for BriaTeams. You must agree to the terms in order to use Bria. Select I agree to allow CounterPath to store and process my personal data and click Accept Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, close your browser window.
  5. Set your Bria communication preferences and click Start Communicating.
  6. Type your name in your user profile. You can add additional contact details and a photo now or you can log back in to the Bria User Dashboard later to add them.

Your Bria Portal account is ready to use. You can download Bria from the links provided. You can also download the iOS version from the Apple app store and the Android version from Google Play.

Launching Bria

To launch Bria
  1. Obtain the Bria download file and follow the prompts in the install wizard.

  2. Start Bria as you would any other program. The Bria Login dialog appears.

  3. Enter your login credentials that you chose when signing up for Bria and click Sign in.

The softphone interface opens.

On Windows, your computer must have the root certificate installed in order to access the Stretto server from the client. Normally this certificate downloads automatically. If this fails to happen, you can manually force Windows to download the certificate.

Open Internet Explorer and go to https://login.bria-x.com/login. This will prompt Windows to download the correct root certificate. Make sure to use Internet Explorer. Using a different browser will not work.

Giving permissions to Bria (Mac)

When using Bria with macOS Mojave or higher, Bria needs some of these permissions in order to access certain functions. Bria asks permissions for:

  • Notifications: For incoming calls and messages.
    See Configuring OS notifications to set up the type of notification.
  • Contacts: For displaying your contact list within Bria.
  • Microphone: For phone conversations.
  • Camera: For video calls.
  • Screen recording: For screen sharing. Required for macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Allow Bria a permission if a pop-up appears.

If you have recently updated to Mojave from a previous macOS version, or you find that you do not have outgoing audio or video during calls, or you have issues integrating your Mac Address Book contacts, you may need to update the permissions in System Preferences.

To give macOS permissions to Bria
  1. Click to open the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
  2. Click Security & Privacy and select the Privacy tab.
  3. Find the Contacts category. Select Bria to allow access.
  4. Find the Camera category. Select Bria to allow access.
  5. Find the Microphone category. Select Bria to allow access.
  6. Find the Screen Recording category. Select Bria to allow access. Required for macOS 10.15 Catalina.

Bria's permissions are updated.

Minimizing Bria

If you click Minimize to system tray (Windows) or the red close button (Mac), Bria does not actually exit, it is simply minimized to the system tray (Windows) or the dock (Mac) but continues running in the back ground.

To open Bria from the system tray (Windows)
  1. Open the Windows system tray.
  2. Right-click on Bria and select Show the Phone.

Exiting Bria

When you are ready to stop using Bria, you need to exit Bria. If you simply close the Bria on screen phone, Bria continues to run in the background.

To exit using the menu
  1. Click Exit of the Softphone menu (Windows) or click Quit Bria on the menu bar (Mac).

Bria stops running and the application closes.

To exit using keyboard accelerators
  1. Bring Bria into focus.
  2. Type Ctrl+Q (Windows) or Command+Q (Mac).

To exit from the taskbar (Windows)
  1. Right-click on Bria in the taskbar.
  2. Click Exit.

  1. Control+Click on Bria in the dock.
  2. Click Quit.

To exit from the system tray (Window)
  1. Open the Windows system tray.
